In NLP, epistemology is foundational: the discipline is built on the premise that we do not respond to reality directly, but to our internal representations of reality. The NLP epistemological stance holds that the map is not the territory — our perceptions, beliefs, and models of the world are constructions, not objective truths, and can therefore be changed.
